Frequently Asked Questions

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Considering we’re the ones that will be frequently asking you guys questions, we thought we should guess some of the questions that you might have about us and what Opinion Compare is. So, here’s our answers – if you have additional questions, just shoot us an email at [email protected] and we’ll do our best to answer as quickly as possible.

1. What’s it all about?
Good question, well asked. We like to think of ourselves as a community where people like you, are rewarded for taking part in research. There’s all different types of research that we conduct. You’re probably familiar with surveys but we’ll be inviting you to take part in focus groups, live online discussions, mystery shopping activities and other types of research you might not have done in the past.

2. Who’s running this website?
A research company called The Interpreters. We’re a small but growing team of market researchers who have offices in Melbourne, London, New Zealand and the United States, so while you think we don’t sleep, we’re probably just in another time zone. We work with companies and brands who want to speak directly to their customers. Unfortunately, they can ask the wrong or misleading questions (e.g. why don’t you buy my brand anymore), so they use companies like us to ask the right questions. We work with a number of other research companies who from time to time will want your valuable opinion. In these cases, we’ll let you know prior as they won’t be as funny as The Interpreters or as conversational… as we do love a chat.

3. How much will I be paid?
We wish this was a simple question to answer but it’s not as there’s a number of different factors in play. But we can tell you it’s based on the commitment from you. There’s some really simple surveys we send that you could complete while cooking dinner and watching Netflix in the background. These ones, you’re not going to make a fortune. But there’s times where we need you to sit down and concentrate, spend up to 15 minutes completely it, and that’s when we pay the bigger bucks. Things like online communities can pay up to $50 a week, and if we need you to head to an actual venue and attend a 1.5 hour focus group, you could qualify for up to $150. While it can be complicated, we always tell you upfront what the reward is going to be.

4. How do I get paid?
The process is simple: once you have enough cash to redeem ($10) click on the Rewards page and follow the instructions. You can check your balance within the website as well, so you know how much you’ve earned. Once you've picked out your gift card, it may take a little bit of time to process but rest assured we're on the case!

5. What if I want out?
Look, we’ll be upset (and want to know why) but we’re not holding anyone captive here. You can unsubscribe at any time by clicking on the unsubscribe link at the below of each page. But should you get to this stage of our relationship, talk to us first – we might be able to fix the problem – you never know.

6. Why do you want to know so much about me and is my information safe?
This is an example of a poorly worded question as we’ve been asked two separate questions in the one, which can lead to people only answering one part. But as researchers, we saw it coming so will answer both. To begin with, we’re sure you’re probably sick of receiving survey invitations to only discover that they’re looking for someone else. We know this can frustrate people and while we can’t always avoid it, we can avoid sending you surveys that you’re not right for. So if we know you are a pet owner, a Toyota driver, like a wine on a Friday night or plan to travel overseas, we can send you invites that are relevant. In terms of keeping your details safe: absolutely! No information you provide us within a survey is ever linked back to personal data and is only presented at an aggregate level. That means that we never report back to our clients saying ‘Jennifer said she hated the idea and the colour sucked’. It’s more 43% of people didn’t like the idea and 76% thought it needed to change colour to suit the brand more. We’re also an Australian Market & Social Research Society (AMSRS) Company Partner, which means we comply with the Fair Data Principles – which is a long and quite frankly boring document – but protects you and all your personal information.

7. I don't want my full name displayed. How do I change it??
We understand that not everyone is comfortable with providing us their full name and having it visible to the community. So there's an easy fix. Just click on the head icon in the top right hand corner of the community and click on 'My Account'. You'll see your details on that page. Just change your First and Last name to whatever you want it to be. We would recommend keeping your First name as it is and changing you Last Name to your initial. We will ask for your full name in the Profiling survey that we send out as in order to pay you for your time we do need to have your details.

8. How do I get in contact with you?
Easily… you can talk to us online; you can email us via [email protected] or you can send us telepathic messages which if we intercept, we’ll be sure to respond.
